Mystery Bag: Same Shapes-Different Sizes

A set of 2 cloth bags containing 6 pairs of small wooden spheres for matching and sorting.

The mystery bag contains various object that the child feels and sorts without looking into the bag. The object is removed after the child has decided how to sort it and a visual check is done. (Though this may also be done blindfolded to add to the experience).

An enjoyable hands-on activity involves utilizing the three fundamental colors to produce secondary colors.

Pre-fill bottles with solutions of red, blue, and yellow food coloring mixed with water. Children can drop one dropperful of red and one dropperful of yellow into a small bowl, witnessing the magical creation of orange. Repeat the process with blue and yellow to form green, and with red and blue to yield violet.

Lift bridges became the workhorses of the freight railroads for many years as rail lines expanded over the rivers and ports of the world. The design was particularly useful in areas where there was no room for a bridge to swing, such as a busy industrial port. This bridge uses a small handle and crankshaft to lift the centre span to the top of the truss structure, allowing trolls and other vehicles to safely pass between the two ends.

The kit can be mostly made without glue and taken apart for storage. Snug slot construction and accurate cutting makes this possible!

Excavators are big machines that are used to dig holes and move earth, and this model uses the same principles as those used in real situations, except you use water instead of hydraulic fluid. There are many types of excavators and this kit uses a first and third class lever to make the arm and shovel move.
