Four Balls on Small Pegs
This early Montessori material is perfect for infants starting around 10–12 months.
It features a wooden board with four vertical pegs and four smooth wooden balls of the same size. As the child places each ball on a peg, the peg becomes visually hidden, helping the child experience how the center hole disappears and the shape appears whole. This activity encourages a deeper understanding of object permanence and spatial relationships.
Montessori Benefits:
- Develops eye-hand coordination and fine motor control
- Promotes intentional grasping and releasing
- Introduces early problem-solving and visual-spatial reasoning
- Provides satisfaction from repetition and success
