The Equivalent Figure Material is an important component of the Montessori educational approach, designed to introduce children to the concept of equivalence that leads to the discovery of area and theorems.

By manipulating the pieces and observing their relationships, children can discover that shapes with different sizes can still be considered equivalent. This understanding lays the foundation for later mathematical concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions.

The Centisimal Frame is calibrated from 0 to 100, and is used with 4.45 Fraction Circles to demonstrate how fractions may be reduced to decimal fractions.

The red whole and cut-out labeled circles are stored in a wooden box with 10 compartments.

Leveled puzzle cards teach parts of a whole, equivalencies, common denominators, and multiples.

Each Fraction Pie Puzzle is a puzzle and a conceptual fraction lesson, all rolled into a fun activity.

Select a card, place the starting pieces, and then complete the circles with the remaining fraction pie pieces. Will one-third solve the puzzle? What about 2 one-sixths?

This kinesthetic way to reinforce basic fraction concepts teaches children how fractional parts make up a whole and about equivalencies, common denominators and multiples.
