Wood Polishing Activity

This Practical Life activity invites the child to care for wooden objects while refining motor coordination, focus, and independence. Beautiful, purposeful, and ready to use in the classroom or at home! 

The whole set includes:

-Yellow tray – to carry and organize all the materials

-Child-sized apron – to protect the child’s clothing and support a sense of responsibility

-Clear plastic container – for storing all the items

-Small glass bowl – to hold a small portion of beeswax polish for easier application

-Beeswax polish jar (100 gram )– natural wood polish (child-safe) used to care for wooden objects

-Wooden polishing object – for children to practice polishing with real purpose

-Wooden applicator stick – to scoop a small amount of polish and transfer it to the bowl

-Small sponge - to apply the polish

-Small cloth – for the first stage of rubbing in the polish

-10 soft polishing cloths – to bring out the final shine on the wood

-Utility sponge – to clean up

Each item is sized for small hands and encourages independence, care of the environment, and pride in purposeful work.

PRESENTATION:

Select the tray from the shelf and bring it to the table. Unroll the apron and put it on. Remove all items from the container and arrange them neatly on the tray.

Use the applicator stick to scoop a small amount of beeswax into the glass bowl.

Dip the small sponge into the polish and apply it to the wooden object using circular motions, following the wood grain.

Let the polish sit briefly. Use the buffing cloth to rub in the polish.

Finish by using a clean polishing cloth to bring out the shine.

TO CLEAN UP:

Return the wooden object to its place.

Wipe the glass bowl with the sponge at the sink.

Fold and return all cloths to the container. Replace with clean ones if needed.

Return all items to the container, place the apron on top, wipe the tray with utility sponge, and set everything back on the tray.

Carry the tray back to the shelf.
